At present, there are mainly two types of screw air compressors that belong to the category of screw air compressors: single screw air compressors and double screw air compressors. All types of screw air compressors are volumetric compressors, which compress air through high-speed rotation of the screw rotor. The final gas compression relies on volume changes.

The main engine of a twin screw air compressor is composed of a pair of screw pairs, namely the male and female rotors, that mesh. When it operates at high speed, the gap between the screw pairs changes to compress air. However, a single screw air compressor is composed of a pair of star wheels and a male rotor screw that mesh, and then the male rotor rotates at high speed to drive a horizontally arranged star wheel for air compression. There are certain differences in the internal structure of single and double screws, but they are not significant. During operation, the power source drives the male rotor with convex teeth on the outer circle, and the male rotor meshes with the star wheel or the female rotor with concave teeth on the outer circle to rotate at high speed to compress air. Single and double screw air compressors have different names due to differences in internal structure, and their working principles are basically the same.

Although screw air compressors are mainly divided into single and double screw models, the market performance of screw air compressors is mainly based on double screws, and the market share of single screw air compressors in actual industrial application is far less than that of double screws. The single screw air compressor is mainly affected by the material issue of its star wheel, which exacerbates wear and tear after long-term use on a large scale.

Based on years of experience in sales and service of air compressors, it has been summarized that in practical production and use, twin screw air compressors have the characteristics of low noise, energy saving, and long-term trouble-free and stable operation, which holds an irreplaceable position in the field of compressed air applications.
